Our programs incorporate the Quality Standards for Expanded Learning programs. Students are encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, develop social skills and explore their world in the following ways:
-
Students are provided a safe and nurturing environment that supports the developmental, social-emotional and physical needs of all students.
-
Students are provided opportunities to acquire knowledge on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle through learning about nutrition, physical activity, mindfulness, and other healthy choices.
-
Students are active and engaged learners in meaningful enrichment activities that are hands-on, project-based and result in a culminating product.
-
Students are involved in projects, activities, and events that increase their understanding and use of 21st century skills (e.g., creativity, critical thinking, and information and communications technology).
-
Youth voice and leadership is encouraged through authentic and meaningful opportunities to share their opinions and ideas.
-
Students learn to embrace diversity and are given opportunities to share, from their personal experiences and backgrounds.
Homework Support
Each site provides a quiet space and time for students to complete school assigned homework assignments. The Extended Learning staff will encourage students to do their homework, but are not responsible for the completion and correctness of each student’s work. We believe it is important for the home and school connection for parents to review assignments with their student. We also believe it is important for classroom Youth Program Leaders to assess student work and identify areas in need of additional classroom support. A staff member will be available to answer questions during the provided homework period.
